I enjoyed this book, although it was not my favorite of the books on the list. I did fall in love with Despereaux's character- especially as he learned to read. I also liked that he was so brave and did not give up when he was trying to get what he wanted. I felt sorry for Miggery Sow- I can not imagine feeling as alone as she must have when her father traded her. I was disappointed when she decided to trick the princess though. I also thought it was funny that the kind decided to outlaw soup, bowls and spoons. I laughed when I imagined the king's men trying to ride around and collect all of these items from people.

The cooks attitude toward Desperaux changes a lot from the first meeting and the second meeting. In the first meeting, the cook absolutely hated Desperaux. In the second meeting, the cook let Desperaux pass through the kitchen. She was very nice. -Jarrett Kidd

I would TOTALLY save the love of my life if i had A chance because if i really loved them that much than i would take risks to protect, and save them from danger. I would still do it even if i were a mouse and she was a royal princess. That's my opinion.

I think Kate DiCamillo chose despereaux to be different because maybe she was the smallest in her family and she was different than all her other family members so , I think that's why Kate wanted despereaux to be different than the other mice and rats. JaNyah Jones

Why did the auther write this whole book about three people a little mouse, a maid, and a princess? I had lots of queshtions for this book but when i read the book for the second time i was very confadent in my reading. I thaght his was a great book and hope you do to.
