I enjoyed reading this book. I like when books are told in each character's perspective because it really lets you get to know the characters and what they are like. It also lets you get to know every side of an issue or problem- such as seeing how the teacher views things versus the students in this book. I liked Miss Rasmussen- her positive attitude and excitement for teaching remind me of how I am when I teach students about the library. I get so excited to share lessons and new books with my students. I also thought it was really funny when Brenton started different trends. I started to cry when Snik lost his father though. This part really saddened me, since this is a reality that many people face as soldiers are lost in wars. However, this book made me laugh out loud more than once and I enjoyed reading about how their problems started to build up when they began using the homework machine.
A few questions: *What are the benefits of the homework machine? What are the drawbacks? Do you think the students in the D squad are wrong to use the homework machine? Or were they smart to take advantage of this tool?
*Do you think homework should exist? Why or why not?
*Would you use a homework machine if your friend had one? Why or why not?
*The four members of the D squad have different types of intelligence. What is each members intelligence? How are they different? Which type of intelligence would you rather have and why?
*Which character do you think changes the most from the beginning to the end? Which character did you like the most? Why?
*Did you think it was confusing to keep track of the characters since the point of view changed so much? What did the author do to try to help you understand each character's point of view and keep track of the characters? How did the author show the characters' different speaking styles? How do the characters' speaking styles differ?
I like then book The Homework Machine. I like this book because I liked how the author told the book from different perspectives. That way we can get each charactes point of view. - Jarrett
I don't think that there should be a Homework Machine, because kids need to pratice what they learned in school. So that is why i do not think i would be great idea to have a Homework Machine.-Henna
I would not use the Homework Machine if one of my friends used it because if i took a test i would not know as much as i would if i did my own homework and class work and that would get you in alot of trouble like talking to the Police! Like in the book it said that when the D Squad took a test on what they have been learning in class, nobody got a good grade but Brenton and in the story the D Squad had to talk with the Police about what they did and how it all happened from beggining to end.
Homework should not exist because we learn alot at school and when we get home from school we should get a break. We also should not have homework because people want to spend time relaxing, also when we ask our parents to help us they dont feel like it because they have a long day from work and want to relax to.
Kyla i agree with you because we do need breaks and time to relax but homework and class work and school help us prepare for the real world and real life situations. For example, in class we are learning about decimals and money. If we did not know how to count, add, and subtract money we would not know what to do when we go to the store and have to pay the cashier. My opinion is that we should have homework so we can be prepared for real life situations
I agree both of you Because we need to learn more but also we learn alot in school and we have our time to learn. But thats why people sometimes have headaches and we need our rest at home when we get home thats our time to relax and when we are at school then we have our time to learn all we need to lear for Ex: when Kelie was saying her statement about money and decimals our teacher teaches us what we need to learn for a period of time. bbut thats why we should not have homework my name is kyla and i approve this message
The character i think changed the most in the Homework Machine would be Snikwad ( Sam Dawkins). I think this because at the beggining Snik was a stuck up jerk and calling Brenton names and being so nasty to people then he blossomed to this nice caring person. In the book he called Brenton names and then at the ending he becomes friends with Brenton instead of being so nasty and mean to everybody.
I think that the D Squad was wrong about using the homework machine because they didn't relize that if they use that tool, they will face great consiquense like a chat with police cheif Rebecca Fish. In my opinion it was very wrong because you are using an illiegel tool.
Question 1: I think that the D Squad took advantage of the Homework Machine and i think that what they did was wrong because instead of trying to do their homework they just used the homework machine to cheat on their homework. If i were them then i would try first then if i get stuck on a problem then i would use the homework machine to help me but they didn't even try they just took advantage of the electronic tool.
i agree with you Kelise Because you should not be able to cheat with the home work machine i wrote this on my other blog but the homework machine is a cheating device and you should be able to do your homework alone because you learn it in class. if you are stuck on a problem then you work it out and can check it on the homework machine. if the homework machine has a diferent answer than yours then you try to find out what you did wrong so you can get a good grade. but if you try it alone and not cheat on the homework machineyou would be able to get a really good grade. my name is kyla and this is my opinion on why the homemework machine should not exist and why i agree with Kelise on her opinion on the homework machine
I kinda agree with Kelise But if you are stuck on a problem that deos not give you a reason to cheat. But if you are stuck on a problem then you should ask to get help on what to do but the homework machine can be to check the problem but if you were on the problem and you got it wrong dont write the right answer try to try it again.
Personally, I think homework should exist because if we did not have homework, you wouldn't be able to remember things you have learned in class. Let's say you have a huge test coming up in about two-three weeks. You need plenty of homework of what the test is about to try to remember the things that the test includes. Also, if you didn't have homework, you would most likely get bad grade on most of your assignments in class because most kids at ten years old do not remember that much. This is why I believe that homework should exist.
I do not think that the homework machine should exist because homework is how kids get half there education. The homework machine is a cheet to doing your homework so i would get rid of it the first time i saw it. thats what i think but some people think difrent and that is ok.
My Quetion to the Author: why did the Author write this book? what inspired him to write the book and why? no i would not use the home work machine if my friend had one because it would be cheating and i want to get good credit for my work that i do but if i used the homework machine i would not be proud that i got a good grade becuase i want to know if i do great in school from my school work. also if i used the homework machine and i got a good grade for it and my parents wre proud of me for it i would be dispointded in my self because i didnt earn that grade and also we neeed to learn what need so we could get a good education.
I think the character that changed the most from the beginning to the end is Snikwad. He changed the most because he went from a person who keeps getting trouble and is arrogant, to a person who likes chess, hangs out with sophisticated people, and much more. I liked Snikwad the best because he reminds me of me in this time period. He is very laid back and chill. He likes girls and is in to a sport[chess is a sport, trust me]. This is why Snikwad is my favorite character.
I think homework should not exists because school is much but homework is way too much. That's why I say thanks to Brenton for creating the home work machine.I think homework as the portable version of school.
My favorite character was Brenton.Because Brenton made the first Homework machine next he could make a portable homework machine.Brenton likes to play chess.
I think the different intelligence of the D squad are . Sinkwad's intelligence is chess and sports,Breton catapult builder Einstein, Judy great grades and Kelesy how to get attention with things that are partially embarrassing. They all have differences and similarities like Brenton and Judy both Einsteins.

I totally agree we don't need homework and we do need time to relax and get our mind off of school!
DeleteBut I also disagree because if there is a benchmark/test we need to study to get a good/great grade!
